The cover-up surrounding Joe Biden’s cognitive decline is a constitutional crisis for USA. That’s according to political commentator AJ Edelman, who calls the scandal worse than Watergate because it has undermined the foundation of democracy.

AJ Edelman, who runs the Substack No BS Politics, describes the scope of what he calls the ”Biden hoax” — a systematic cover-up of the former president’s mental state.

”This is probably the biggest electoral fraud in modern American political history. Not since Woodrow Wilson (president 1913-1921), who was essentially in a coma for a long time while his wife ran the White House, has anything like this happened,” AJ Edelman tells Bulletin.

Worse Than Watergate

AJ Edelman argues that the Biden scandal surpasses Watergate in severity.

”Watergate was about the president’s office helping to cover up a crime. This was a crime committed by the president himself in order to obtain and hold political power,” he explains.

According to him, the democratic contract between voters and politicians was broken when Joe Biden was presented as healthy despite his condition.

”When everything is based on a lie, the foundation of the social contract is broken. There is no longer informed consent,” AJ Edelman says, also pointing out that we still don’t know the full extent of Joe Biden’s mental and physical problems.

Recently, Joe Biden’s staff announced that he had been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer, something that typically takes many years to develop.

Media Became ”Enemy of the People”

He particularly points to the media’s role. He references CNN’s Jake Tapper, who previously criticized those who questioned Joe Biden’s health but now profits from a book about the affair.

”The media merged with political interests and became an arm of the presidency. They destroyed not only trust in government but also in themselves,” he says.

AJ Edelman believes that Donald Trump was proven right when he called the media ”the enemy of the people.” Whether establishment media was or wasn’t that when Donald Trump began using the term is debatable, AJ Edelman thinks. But since then, the media has become what Trump called them.

”When it comes to the Biden hoax, it’s hard to argue that Donald Trump wasn’t telling the truth. The media became exactly what he said they were,” AJ Edelman states.

He mentions several other scandals where the media was on the wrong side of history: Russiagate — where Democratic campaign material was used to paint Donald Trump as a Russian ”asset.” Nothing turned out to be true. The revelation about Hunter Biden’s laptop ”laptop from hell” was completely groundlessly claimed to be a Russian disinformation campaign.

Constitution Failed

According to AJ Edelman, constitutional safeguards also failed. The 25th Amendment, which stipulates that the president can be removed by his cabinet if he is unfit, was never applied despite obvious signs of Joe Biden’s mental decline.

AJ Edelman points to two critical dates:

1. February 8, 2024. Special Prosecutor Robert Hur described Joe Biden as ”an elderly man with poor memory” too weak for trial. Hur had questioned Biden and examined whether Biden had handled classified documents improperly before becoming president.

2. June 27, 2024. Joe Biden was forced to abandon his presidential candidacy after a catastrophic performance in the debate against Donald Trump.

”Kamala Harris had political reasons not to activate the 25th Amendment. It would have been difficult to win the election while simultaneously explaining why she hadn’t noticed the president’s condition,” AJ Edelman says.

Hard to Restore Trust

To repair the damage, he believes the Democrats themselves must investigate the affair openly.

”The only way to handle a scandal is to own it and cauterize the wounds with sunlight. But in today’s politics, that will never happen,” AJ Edelman says.

He is pessimistic about the media’s ability to regain trust.

”Trust in the media is gone forever. Writing a book about a cover-up you yourself participated in without acknowledging your mistakes is extremely cynical,” AJ Edelman concludes.
