SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korean leader Kim Jong Un ordered officials to wage a tougher epidemic prevention campaign in “our style” after he turned down some foreign COVID-19 vaccines offered via the U.N.-backed immunization program.

During a Politburo meeting Thursday, Kim said officials must “bear in mind that tightening epidemic prevention is the task of paramount importance which must not be loosened even a moment,” the official Korean Central News Agency reported Friday.

UNICEF  said North Korea proposed its allotment of about 3 million Sinovac shots be sent to severely affected countries instead.

Over the past week or so, Apple has eased some longstanding restrictions that helped make its App Store into a big moneymaker for the company. The company has long required app developers to pay high commissions to Apple on the sales of paid apps as well as purchases of subscriptions or digital items inside their apps.

Apple is facing some significant pressure to open up the App Store further. A federal judge is soon expected to return a verdict in an <a class="" href="https://apnews.com/article/apple-inc-lifestyle-trials-technology-business-d534dc458b5c20188a1e71ff38a94a56">antitrust lawsuit filed by Epic Games</a>, the maker of Fortnite, that seeks to strike down much of Apple’s commission system. And earlier this week, the South Korean legislature passed a law that would allow developers to sidestep payment systems run by both Apple and Google — and the commissions of 15% to 30% they charge.

Apple hasn’t always explained its moves very clearly, leaving some iPhone users with unanswered questions.

TOKYO (AP) — Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga said Friday he won’t run for leadership of the governing party at the end of this month, paving the way for a new Japanese leader after just a year in office.

Suga told reporters he had originally planned to run in the Sept. 29 race to lead his governing Liberal Democratic Party, but that leading Japan’s pandemic response and campaigning for the LDP job at the same time divided his energies.
